These recognized complications are as follows:

• Extrusion- a breakdown of the skin, leaving the underlying breast implant visible through the skin
• Implant malposition- when the breast implant is not in the correct position
• Toxic Shock Syndrome-when during the breast implant surgery, wounds are contaminated with microorganisms, such as bacteria or fungi
• Implant wrinkling or rippling
• Implant palpability- the implant can be felt through the skin
• Capsular contracture- hardening of the breast area surrounding the implant
• Chest wall deformity
• Breast feeding difficulties
• Asymmetry- when breasts are uneven in appearance in terms or size, shape or level
• Breast pain
• Necrosis- skin or tissue death around the breast
• Loss of nipple sensation
• Re-operation- additional surgeries
• Rupture of breast implant
• Breast tissue atrophy- thinning and shrinking of the skin
• Seroma-the collection of fluid around an implant
