Dermal Fillers – The Temporary Choice
As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish as wrinkles and folds form. Dermal fillers enhance your natural looks by restoring your skin’s volume, creating softness and revitalizing your appearance. Dermal fillers are great for your “laugh lines,” “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds), or “marionette lines” (oral commissures). There is minimal recovery or downtime with most dermal fillers.
Your Cosmetic Surgeons Salt Lake City will most likely use topical anesthesia (painkiller applied directly to the lips) for injections. These are performed on an outpatient basis in your doctor’s office or an outpatient center and you will be sent home the same day.

* Juvéderm® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. * Radiesse®uses advanced, calcium-based microsphere technology to deliver soft, natural-looking results. It also stimulates your body to produce new collagen, so you’ll continue to look more youthful and attractive over time.* Fat from your own thighs or abdomen can be injected into your lips. There’s no risk of allergic reaction and you may achieve permanent results. This can also be implanted surgically (see below). * Restylane is a clear gel. It contains hyaluronic acid, which naturally occurs in humans, so there’s little chance for an allergic reaction. It’s biodegradable, so your body will absorb it within about six months of the injection.Treatment with dermal fillers are so simple and convenient, they can be performed during your lunch hour. You’ll see the results right away – and these results may last up to a year or more for many patients.
Lip Augmentation – Permanent:
Surface Med uses fat and Silikon 1000 for lip enhancement where a more permanent filling is desired. Fat is the preferred filler as it is natural and (usually) found in sufficient quantities. A small amount of fat is harvested from an appropriate site and then transferred to the lips. This is all done under local anesthesia and results in the most natural augmentation available.
Silikon 1000 is a medical grade silicone oil originally FDA approved for injecting into the eyeball to stop retinal hemorrhages. Because it is ultra high grade silicone, it does not suffer from prior problems of inpure silicone being injected into people. The effects of Silikon 1000 are a little more predictable than fat but lacks its natural qualities.
